Cool Tube for Dracula orchids
Cool Tubes, a new way to
grow Dracula orchids These clay tubes were designed and made
by hand specifically to help you grow spectacular Draculas, especially the kinds that have pendulous inflorescences (flower spikes
that hang down, rather than growing up).
The tubes are similar to our Cool Pots. They are hollow, and you fill
the tube with water.
The tubes are curved and they are fairly
porous, absorbing water quickly. The water then evaporates from the outside of the tube. This keeps the media around the
roots cooler than it normally would be and creates higher humidity.
We started making and using these in 2009
and our Draculas and other Pleurothallids love them. They bloom better and the Dracula flowers don't have to fight their
way out of a net pot. Mount your plant in the 'U' of the tube, in sphagnum moss.
Cool Tubes are hand-made and there will be
slight variations in size. However, the small one sold here is approximately 8 inches long.
Each tube has attachment
holes and comes with a wire hanger, so you can hang these in a cool spot.
