Call for Artists and Crafters

Spring Fling Arts and Crafts Show

Friday and Saturday May 16, 17

Sponsored by The Orchid Gallery

and the TN Baptist Children's Home

Artists and crafts people are invited to apply for vendor spaces at "A Spring Fling Arts & Crafts Festival."

The arts show will be held on the grounds of the Children's Home at 6623 Lee Highway in Chattanooga, TN.

The outdoor tent festival will feature original works of art in all media, including paintings, photography, pottery, sculpture, hand-made jewelry, folk art and fabric art.

The jury fee is $15. The show entry fee is $25.

The festival organizers are Orchid Gallery Owner Beth Cox and Chattanooga Artist Barbara Ware. The event is in part a benefit for the Tennessee Baptist Childrens Home.

The show organizers said they see a real need in the Chattanooga area for more venues to let local artists and crafters demonstrate their talents to the public.

"We want to provide a venue for artists young and old to get their work out in front of a crowd of potential buyers," Ms. Cox said.

The show will run from noon until dark on Friday May 16, and from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday May 17. Food and drink vendors also are being sought.

Parking and admission to the event will be free. The event will be widely promoted.

Display requirements

In an effort to improve the overall look of our shows, we are asking all exhibitors to take a look at their displays and determine:

* Is my display professional and aesthetically pleasing?
* Is my entire display attractive and inviting to the public?

1. We prefer that all tents and canopies be WHITE, to give the show a unified appearance and make it attractive to passersby. However, a white tent is not mandatory; you may use an EZ-Up type with a green, red or blue canopy. Tents must be able to withstand winds and rain. Adequate weights are mandatory; the area Fire Marshals will be checking your tents. Tent stakes are not permitted.
2. The best canopies are Craft Hut, Showoff, Light Dome and the heavy Easy Up's.
3. All panels should be covered with fabric or carpeting -- do not have any metal exposed on your panels.
4. Please have browse bins that either match your panels or are in the same fabric and color schemes. (Try and have them free standing.) Wood always works great too!
5. No sale signs or hand-written signs are allowed. Your company name or artist name is acceptable as long as it is professional and attractive, not bold and obstructive.
6. Pedestals, at different levels are the best display for pottery, ceramics, glass, and wood. Make sure pedestals are painted a nice clean color that enhances your work, or have them covered with a nice neutral fabric.
7. Jewelers: Anyone can put out tables and either lay jewelry on the table or on velvet necks for display. What we find the most attractive is wood or mica units, with or without glass, with either coral, stones, or whatever ideas you can come up with to enhance your jewelry. For example of you make Glass Jewelry have a few pieces of the loose glass on your cases/pedestals.
8. If you use tables, please be sure they are professionally covered and skirted to the ground. Absolutely no plastic covers, bedsheets or tablecloths will be allowed! All covers must be hemmed and all covered tables must have the same color scheme. No storage bins or boxes should be visible.
